Earl the Kid: “Don’t Make Music for Clout or Money. The Industry’s Saturated with That.”

When you first meet Earl the Kid, he immediately strikes you as an unusual, fascinating character. The self-proclaimed “Donut King”, this guy’s all fun and jokes on one side, but with another more serious hustling side. As such, we were dying to have a chat with him about what got him into the donut game, and how he views his popularity.

Aside from being the man behind the Donut Invasion game, Earl the Kid is also an artist and DJ, having worked on more than a few high-end events. In his native London, he’s been “able to spin for a few Gucci private events (bless you V.L.) in some really exclusive locations”, as well as sustaining his own music shows, both in the UK, and in Europe.

As is the case with so many modern-day artists, social media plays a big role in Earl’s popularity, though he does praise it with a grain of salt.

“We cannot escape the social media trap, can we? It’s literally impossible nowadays to promote your art/music without using socials as a tool. Majority of people use it just to flex a fake lifestyle tho!”

For someone boasting a quite impressive 50k-strong following, Earl is surprisingly down-to-earth and chill, giving you the impression, you’re hanging out with just another friend. A really off-the-wall, and vivacious kinda friend. His take-no-prisoners and no-regret attitude is an immediate tonic. When asked if there’s anything he wishes he’d done different, he says

“Actually no, otherwise I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Everyone has a different path, mistakes gotta be made on a daily basis in my opinion in order to grow and progress forward!”

It’s this straight-forward, cheeky attitude that gets Earl noticed across social media. That, and his unusual choice of selfie style, for Earl has been wearing a face mask before it was “cool”. That’s right, this donut king has been using elaborate, sometimes spooky masks to conceal the lower half of his face, and as such, his true identity, thus further perplexing his fans.

“They donut know my real identity and how I look like without the mask, so I guess that’s a good hobby to live an “undercover” life when I’m off stage!”

That, along with his eclectic music style (Anthrax, Lamb of God, Depeche Mode, ATLiens being but a few of his favorites) are what’s got new people flocking to Earl’s side. And lucky for them, ‘cause Earl’s sure got big plans for the future, including owning his own donut brand.

Still, in the present, he keeps it humble, crediting his parents for creating (and supporting!) him all these years, before launching into a laugh, and also thanking the first person to ever bake donuts.

Earl’s also deeply committed to giving back to the community, currently running not one but two separate projects: fashion society called “Dimes of London”, and mental health project “Hybrid Mental Health”. On a final note, he adds:

“My biggest suggestion is to start making music for yourself whenever you cannot express your feelings/emotions through normal interactions and eventually other people will relate to that and support you. Do not make music for clout or money, this industry is already saturated by those assholes.”
