Tanya Sway Returns to New York Fashion Week Ten Years Later

By Staff Writer

Tanya Sway has already lived one version of a fashion career. Now, Tanya Sway’s New York Fashion Week return marks a very different chapter.

In the mid-2000s, the Thai-Swiss model was working across television, runway and pageants. Her credits included commercials for Dunkin’ Donuts, Target, Red Horse Beer and Clover Chips, along with runway work for designers including Rajo Laurel and Michael Cinco.

In 2007, she competed in Miss Thailand World and reached the top five of Switzerland’s first Top Model competition.

Then life changed.

Sway got married, became a mother of four and stepped away from the fashion world for nearly a decade.

By the time she returned to New York Fashion Week in September 2026, the industry looked completely different.

Models were no longer just being cast for campaigns or waiting for editorial opportunities. Social media had changed the system. Creators could build their own audiences, make their own content and create visibility without relying entirely on traditional fashion gatekeepers.

Sway came back understanding that.

Her NYFW schedule included Frederick Anderson, Verdavainne and the launch of Anya Marcon’s Model Life, along with a packed week of shows, events and appearances that she documented across her own platforms.

Today, she describes herself as a model, content creator and entrepreneur, with a digital presence that spans Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

That shift feels natural.

The same person who once had to be camera-ready for someone else’s campaign is now also thinking about the video, the post and what happens after the event ends.

Across her social platforms, Sway has built an audience of around 50,000 followers.

It is not massive by influencer standards, but it gives her something she did not have during the first part of her career: direct access to an audience.

That changes the relationship.

Brands once hired her mainly to appear in the image.

Now she can help create the image, publish it and shape the story around it.

Her current content also extends beyond fashion into beauty, fragrance and travel, reflecting the broader creator role she has built around her personal brand.

Sway is also connected to The Bastos Podcast, a monthly show focused on Filipino creators and personalities across different parts of the industry. Apple Podcasts lists Sway as one of the show’s hosts alongside Brims Brigante and That Asian Filo Nas.

She also returns with a different perspective.

After ten years away, Fashion Week does not feel like the only thing happening in the world. There is less pressure to be everywhere and more focus on choosing the right rooms, the right people and the right opportunities.

Motherhood is part of that change.

Sway does not treat raising four children as a gap she needs to explain away. It is simply part of the life she built before deciding to step back into fashion.

“Everything I did before is still in me,” Sway says. “I came back with a fuller life and a clearer purpose. This time I know what I am after.”

She has also made a point of connecting with younger creators and people still trying to find their place in the industry.

Fashion still runs heavily on relationships. Who you meet matters. Who introduces you matters. Who remembers you matters.

Social media has opened new doors, but it has not replaced the importance of being in the room.

For Sway, this return is not really about trying to become the person she was ten years ago.

It is about figuring out what a fashion career can look like now.

The model is still there.

So is the experience.

What has changed is the level of control.

This time, Sway is not simply stepping back into fashion. She is deciding how she wants to be seen, what she wants to build and where the story goes next.
