The fourth annual Tribeca Festival at Art Basel Miami Beach opened on December 5 with the kind of energy that reminds you why December in this city feels alive in a different way. The Miami Beach Bandshell was the place to be as Bogotá’s own Latin Grammy-nominated ensemble Monsieur Periné set the tone for a weekend built on discovery, creativity, and community. Presented by Google Gemini, the night delivered a blend of music, culture, and technology that fit right into the rhythm of Art Basel week.
Festivalgoers filtered in early, catching a lively set from DJ Cucu of Ear Candy before the main performance. Once Monsieur Periné hit the stage, the Bandshell shifted into a joyful mix of Latin swing, pop, and bright vocals that had the crowd moving from the first note. Their sound, rooted in Colombian tradition and dressed in global influences, created a warm welcome for Tribeca’s fourth year in Miami.
This year’s Tribeca Festival program continues its mission to highlight emerging artists who are shaping the future of culture. Following the opening performance, Saturday will bring the atmospheric duo Hermanos Gutiérrez to the same stage. Their haunting, cinematic style has earned them a loyal international audience, and their appearance adds a second layer of contrast and depth to the weekend’s lineup. Tribeca also revealed that more performers and special guests will be announced soon.
Beyond the live shows, Tribeca and ESPN will co-host an invitation-only preview of two new short films that explore stories connected to sports and the Latino community. An intimate discussion with the directors, moderated by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Rudy Valdez, will close out the evening. The focus continues to land on storytelling as a bridge across cultures, something Tribeca consistently champions.
“Tribeca was founded on the belief that storytelling connects communities,” said Vincent Cassous, Head of Music Programming at the Tribeca Festival. “At Art Basel Miami Beach, we are celebrating the emerging artists and musicians who are reshaping the cultural landscape, and doing it in one of the most vibrant creative cities in the world.”
Tribeca’s partnership with Art Basel Miami Beach has now become a cultural fixture of the season. What began four years ago has grown into a signature moment on Miami’s December calendar. Previous editions have featured standout appearances from Robert De Niro, JR, Camila Cabello, Chance the Rapper, Flying Lotus, Domi and JD Beck, Yussef Dayes, Magdalena Bay, and Eartheater. The festival’s blend of art, film, and music continues to deepen its connection to the city and its creative community.
Bridget Finn, Director of Art Basel Miami Beach, echoed the importance of the collaboration. “We are delighted to partner with Tribeca once again for their fourth edition at Art Basel Miami Beach. Their thoughtfully curated program reflects the exceptional caliber of experiences our audiences have come to expect, connecting the next generation of voices across art, film, and music throughout the Art Basel campus and across the city.”
One of the crowd favorites this year is the Google Gemini Photobooth. The installation merges old school photo booth fun with Gemini’s latest AI image editing model, Nano Banana. Guests can snap a photo, apply AI powered styles, and walk away with a printed strip that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. After its run at Art Basel Miami Beach, the Gemini Photobooth will hit several locations across the country, including universities and a pop concert.
As Art Basel continues through December 7 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Tribeca’s programming adds a refreshing counterbalance to the galleries and installations across the city. The festival’s emphasis on live music, community dialogue, and emerging talent helps anchor the cultural pulse of Basel week.
