Chance the Rapper Announces New Album Star Line, Out August 15

Chance the Rapper is back. After years of artistic exploration and global travels, the Chicago-born independent powerhouse has officially announced Star Line, his next full-length album. Set to release on August 15, Star Line is already being called his most ambitious and personal project yet.

Who is Chance the Rapper?

For those new to the story, Chance the Rapper broke into the music scene with 10 Day in 2012, a mixtape he recorded while suspended from high school. He followed that with the critically acclaimed Acid Rap and then Coloring Book, the latter earning him three Grammy Awards and changing the game for independent artists. Chance never signed with a major label, choosing instead to chart his own course and represent a new kind of freedom in music.

He’s not just a rapper. He’s a community activist, a creative director, and someone deeply rooted in Chicago’s cultural fabric. His work always reflects his city, his faith, and his vision for something bigger.

What to Expect from Star Line

This album isn’t just another project. Star Line is a reflection of Chance’s growth over the past six years, both as an artist and a person. The music is inspired by his travels to Ghana, Jamaica, and various global art fairs, but it still carries the familiar heart and soul fans know from his earlier work.

Chance teamed up with longtime producer DexLvL to craft a sound that blends hip-hop, soul, and experimental layers. It’s not just about style though. The lyrics dive into themes like identity, resilience, and legacy. The title itself pays tribute to Marcus Garvey’s original Black Star Line, a symbol of Black empowerment, movement, and self-determination.

Lead Single: “Tree” Featuring Lil Wayne and Smino

The first single, Tree, is already turning heads. It samples India.Arie’s Video and features verses from Lil Wayne and Smino. Lyrically, the track reflects on the strength of Black women, critiques the agricultural industry, and reclaims cannabis as a symbol of peace and resistance.

The music video, which Chance directed himself, brings the message home. Set in a Black women-owned dispensary and growing facility, the visual celebrates ownership, growth, and community. It’s equal parts playful and powerful, showing that the Star Line is more than a musical idea. It’s a larger statement about healing and forward motion.

The NFC Experience

Star Line is available now for CD pre-order at Chancestuff.com, alongside the special Star Line Shipping Co. merch collection. Each item in the Shipping Co. merch collection, as well as the CDs, feature a built-in NFC chip. Merch purchases include exclusive Star Line content through the NFC, while the CD comes with a download of the album. Additional merch drops and activations will be announced soon.

Album Art by Brandon Breaux

Visual artist Brandon Breaux, known for designing the covers of 10 Day, Acid Rap, and Coloring Book, returns for Star Line. His long-term creative partnership with Chance has always centered Black identity and imagination in full color. With this new piece, he continues that legacy, crafting a look that matches the spirit of the music.

Why This Album Matters

Star Line isn’t just about making music. It’s about reclaiming narrative, celebrating culture, and pushing boundaries while staying true to your foundation. Chance’s new chapter reflects growth without forgetting where it all began. From Chicago to the world, this album feels like a homecoming with a wider lens.

Whether you’ve been a fan since day one or you’re just discovering his work, Star Line promises something honest, inventive, and deeply connected to both past and future.
