For Fiona Troy, fabric is never simply fabric.
It has already lived somewhere. It may carry traces of another era, another wardrobe or another person’s story. Rather than erasing that history, the Irish contemporary womenswear designer makes it part of the clothes.
On September 18, Fiona Troy presented at Dartmouth House in Mayfair as part of the sold-out Fashion Represents and Paris Runway Official showcase during London Fashion Week. Editors and fashion media from across Europe attended, including representatives from Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, Grazia and Glamour.
When the Past Becomes the Collection
At the heart of Fiona Troy’s work is a fascination with nostalgia, forgotten heirlooms and the quiet beauty of everyday objects.
Vintage and reclaimed textiles are transformed into contemporary womenswear, allowing existing materials to begin another chapter rather than disappear.
It is an approach that feels particularly relevant as fashion continues to question how and how much it produces.
But for Troy, reuse isn’t simply about sustainability. It is about memory.
The imperfections within an older textile aren’t necessarily something to hide. They can become part of what makes a garment impossible to replicate.
Clothing With a Life Before the Runway
Through craftsmanship and thoughtful design, Troy creates a meeting point between Irish heritage and contemporary fashion, preserving elements of the past without allowing them to feel trapped there.
Every reclaimed textile arrives with an identity of its own. Through the designer’s hand, those histories are reworked into something that can be worn, interpreted and remembered differently by someone new.
That made Fiona Troy’s London Fashion Week appearance about more than introducing another collection.
In an industry constantly asking what comes next, Fiona Troy offered another possibility: sometimes fashion’s future can be made from something that already has a past.
