A New Chapter for Gucci
Milan was the stage for a defining moment in fashion history as Gucci introduced the world to its new creative era under Demna. Known for rewriting the rules of presentation, the Georgian designer chose not to unveil his first collection through a conventional runway show. Instead, he orchestrated a cultural event that merged film, fashion, and celebrity in one unforgettable evening.
The debut, titled La Famiglia, reimagined the essence of Gucci as a modern family portrait. With 37 striking looks, each character embodied a facet of the brand’s spirit, from daring extravagance to refined sensuality. The collection was not only an introduction but also a manifesto, signaling the direction Demna intends to take the Italian house.
The Film Premiere
The centerpiece of the launch was The Tiger, a short film screened at Milan’s Palazzo Mezzanotte. Directed by Oscar winner Spike Jonze alongside Halina Reijn, the film starred Demi Moore as Barbara Gucci, a fictional matriarch navigating the drama and elegance of an imagined Gucci dynasty. The narrative blurred the line between fashion showcase and cinema, presenting clothing as both costume and identity.
This cinematic approach underscored Demna’s intention to expand Gucci’s influence beyond the runway, creating an immersive world where fashion intersects with storytelling.
Star Power in Milan
The premiere drew a glittering guest list that highlighted Gucci’s enduring cultural relevance. Demi Moore appeared in an embroidered gown that reflected her film persona, while Gwyneth Paltrow embraced a head-to-toe Gucci monogram ensemble. Serena Williams captivated in a black feathered creation, and rising models Alex Consani and Lila Moss turned heads in their campaign looks, seamlessly transitioning from portrait to red carpet.
The audience also included new-generation tastemakers such as Devon Lee Carlson, Mariacarla Boscono, and Amelia Gray, affirming Demna’s ability to attract both Hollywood icons and cutting-edge influencers.
A Future in Motion
Demna has made it clear that this unveiling was only the foundation of what is to come. La Famiglia serves as both a teaser and a statement of intent, reminding audiences of Gucci’s ability to surprise, provoke, and dominate the cultural conversation.
If Milan’s cinematic night is any indication, the next chapters of Demna’s Gucci will not simply be fashion shows. They will be cultural landmarks.
