The 2025 Black Student-Athlete Summit began last night at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago. It kicked off with a powerful evening of inspiration, community, and purpose. The event attracted more than 1,300 student-athletes, young professionals, and athletic leaders from across the country.
Held from May 21–24, the summit is the largest national gathering focused on empowering Black student-athletes. The four-day experience promotes academic growth, mental health awareness, financial literacy, and career advancement.
Super Bowl champion and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark delivered the keynote address. His speech energized the crowd and encouraged attendees to lead with purpose and think beyond sports.
Clark’s words resonated deeply. He called on student-athletes to take ownership of their lives and build a lasting legacy.
Dr. Zaldwaynaka Scott, President of Chicago State University, opened the evening. She welcomed attendees to the city and highlighted the importance of hosting this summit in Chicago. She also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the academic and professional success of Black student-athletes.
More Than a Conference—A Cultural Shift
The Black Student-Athlete Summit is not just a conference—it’s a movement. It focuses on the 98% of Black student-athletes who will not go pro, yet are destined to become leaders in business, education, and their communities.
This year’s programming includes:
- Career & Graduate School Fair
- Elevate Experience Workshops
- Morning Wellness Sessions
- Breakout and Plenary Panels featuring ESPN’s Jess Sims, retired NFL player Jeremy Hill, and more
These events provide hands-on support, practical tools, and meaningful connections. Each session is designed to prepare student-athletes for life beyond the game.
As the summit continues, it serves as a powerful reminder. Black student-athletes are more than what they do on the field. They are innovators, changemakers, and future leaders.
